F.A.Q

Where can I use the boats?

You can tow our boats anywhere in WA and head out on the water up to 5 nautical miles offshore.

We can arrange to drop the boat off to you with costs ranging depending on your location. Please give us a call to discuss your needs.

What if the weather turns bad?

We don’t want you going out on the water if weather conditions are unsafe*. We keep an eye on the weather conditions before our boats go out and if we’re concerned about the weather becoming unsafe we’ll contact you to arrange an alternate hire date.  If you’re worried about the weather please give us a call and we can chat to you about this.

If a hire is postponed due to weather your deposit will be credited towards the future hire.

*Unsafe weather conditions are defined in your hire terms and conditions.

Can my car tow the boat?

All cars towing our boats must be roadworthy, fitted with a tow ball and able to tow a minimum of 1400kgs.

We also have a range of trailer light plugs to make sure we have one that fits your connection.

If you’re not sure if you’re car’s up to the task, give us a call to check.

Do I need a boat licence?

Yes, just like a car you need a licence to drive our boats. You’ll need a recreational skippers’ ticket (RST) but if you don’t have one, no worries just let us know and we’ll put you in touch with a local provider who can get you up-skilled in just half a day.

Do I need a fishing licence?

Here in the South West we’re lucky to have some awesome fishing spots right on our doorstep and our team at Freedom West want to make sure these fishing spots are around for everyone to enjoy well into the future.

Fishing licences are required for recreational fishing from a boat. Check out the Fisheries website for applications and more information.

Do you provide fishing gear?

The simple answer is yes! We can provide all the gear you need to catch fish in the South West (this includes bait and eskys).

Let us know what you’re after when you make your booking and we can put together a fishing package for you. Costs vary depending on the package supplied.

How many people can I have on the boat?

Our boats are in survey as follows:
– WA Coastal waters to 5 nautical miles = 3 people
– Within Geographe Bay to 2 nautical miles = 4 people
– Within rivers, estuaries and other sheltered waters = 6 people

Do you provide life jackets?

Of course! Safety is an important priority for us and we want to make sure you have a great day out but get home in one piece.

Our boats come with four adult life jackets as standard as well as all the required safety gear. We also have extras and kids life jackets available at no extra cost. Just let us know what you need when you make your booking.

When can I pick up and drop off the boat?

This varies depending on the length of the hire. Our standard daily hire times are listed below:

– Earliest pickup – Sunrise
– Latest drop off – 5pm (Boat must be returned clean).

We may be able to arrange for pickup the night before your hire depending on our hire schedules but this needs to be arranged at the time of booking.

Can I pick up the boat off the beach?

Absolutely! We’re happy to launch and retrieve the boat for you for a small extra cost to save you the hassle of lining up at the boat ramp.

Our local boat ramps are Port Geographe, Abbey and Dunsborough, but we can arrange this service from other boat ramps for an extra cost.

Just let us know when you make your booking.

Are fuel costs included in my hire fee?

No. Our boats are provided full of fuel at the beginning of the hire and like a hire car we ask that you fill it up before returning to us. Our boats take standard unleaded petrol.

Boats that are returned with less than a full tank will have the refuelling costs deducted from the hire deposit.
